The relatively new partnership of Wang Wenfei and Ran Jingron had a sizzling 66.77% game in the first final session of the Whitehead Women’s Pairs and followed it with 58.31% to win the event by more than three boards. Second place went to Kitty Cooper and Lynne Feldman.

The winners finished with a score of 850.07 (25 top) was 85.33 matchpoints ahead of the runners-up.

The winners, from China, have played together about two months. They played in the invitational NEC tournament in Japan earlier this year but did not score well. They are both members of the Chinese women’s team.

In the Women’s Pairs, they started the day tied for 13th, well off the pace, but had the monster game in the first final session to surge into first.
