The Montreal-based duo of Kamel Fergani and Fred Pollack won the four-session Wernher Open Pairs last night, parlaying a strong carryover from their victory in the qualifying round with two 58-plus percent games in the final sessions.
In second were Brian Glubok of New York City and David Treitel of Miami FL, who finished one and a half boards behind the winners.
This was the first NABC win for Pollack – who was King of Bridge in 1992 – and the second for Fergani whose previous victory came in the 1988 Men’s (now Jacoby Open) Swiss Teams.
Fergani and Pollack recently won the Canadian National Team Championship, earning the right to represent Canada in the World Bridge Games in Poland in September. It was Pollack’s first CNTC win, but Fergani’s sixth.
