The team captained by James Melville jumped out to a 22-IMP lead after one quarter and led throughout the match in defeating the Paul Darin squad 127-75 for the championship in the NABC 10K Knockout. No competitor could have more than 10,000 masterpoints.

Melville, of Springfield IL, played with Vlad Isporski of Sofia, Bulgaria; Steve Stewart of Overland Park KS and Mark Jones of Birmingham AL.

For the 10K event, Melville wore his “lucky” shirt from his and Isporski’s victory in the Fast Open Pairs in Denver last fall.

Darin and teammates Mac Busby and Sam Madison-Jammal are from San Diego. Their fourth, Leon Fisher, is from Oceanside CA.

Darin complimented the winners, telling a tournament director,“We were never really in it. The better team won.”
