Trailing by 2 victory points with a round to play in the Truscott/USPC Senior Swiss Teams, the all-Massachusetts squad captained by Haven Sharaf came through with a good last round to pull out the win by 1.53 VPs when the leading team managed only a tie in their final match. The winners finished with 124.14 VPs to 122.61 for the team led by Rick Roeder.

The win was the first North American championship for each member of the team. With the win, Bill Irvine, of Quincy, and Melvin Marcus, of Waltham, became Grand Life Masters.

The rest of the team was Sharaf, of Danvers; Rena Lieberman, North Easton; Robert Lurie, Wayland, and John Hrones Jr., Needham.

The runners-up are Roeder, La Mesa CA; John Jones, Santa Fe Springs CA; Peter Rank, Palm Springs CA, and Lynne Feldman, San Diego.
