Sidney Lazard died today at his home in Dallas. The Hall of Famer was 84 years old.
Lazard, one of the game’s true gentlemen and colorful characters, won 13 NABC titles, including the Vanderbilt, the Spingold and the Reisinger. Bart Bramley, Lazard’s partner in winning the 2002 Kaplan Blue Ribbon Pairs, called Lazard “the greatest man I’ve ever known.”
Lazard was predeceased by his son, Sidney Lazard Jr., in whose memory he established an annual sportsmanship award recognizing fair, friendly play and active ethics at the highest levels of the game.
A full obituary will appear in the December issue of the Bridge Bulletin.
