Clubs aren’t the only teams participating in The Longest Day. Some units and tournaments will also be hosting special games and taking donations. The Longest Day is a fundraising event held on June 21 — the longest day of the year — that aims to raise money for the research, support and care efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. (Funds raised in Canada will go to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.)
Even though The Longest Day falls on the same day as the Valley Forge Regional in King of Prussia, the District 4 FUN-d Raisers will be working to raise money and awareness, said April Uhlenburg.
“There will be lots of bridge and a table to collect donations,” she said. “We will have a table at our regional to accept donations both in person and online. We also have some door prizes to raffle off.”
Unit 360 will also host a raffle during a sectional on The Longest Day, said Ann Parker.
“Members of the club are donating things like home cooked dinner for four in your home, hand-painted bird house, handmade tote bags, bakes goods, etc.,” she said. In addition, they will be charging $1 extra for each entry, and it will be given to the Alzheimer’s Association. They will also be accepting donations.
Unit 183’s sectional tournament will also be giving a donation from each entry, said Lauren Brown. The tournament will also feature special breakfast and lunch games between sessions.
