Club and Cruise Directors Course (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, July 24,25 and 26)

This comprehensive course prepares candidates for directing club and bridge cruise games. Anyone interested in becoming a club director or a director aboard a cruise ship is invited to participate. Best Practices Teacher Workshop (Friday, Saturday and Sunday July 27, 28 and 29)

This workshop will train teachers on how, rather than what, to teach. It is built around simulations to engage participants in analyzing and practicing as well as giving and receiving feedback on working with students while delivering bridge lessons, and have the opportunity to earn ACBL’s Best Teaching Practices Certification. Proficiency assessments to earn Best Practices Teacher certification are conducted at the conclusion of the workshop for an additional $25 fee and are optional.

Enjoy ACBL’s thank you reception for the club officials and teachers who recruit and retain our members. All club managers, teachers and club directors are encouraged to attend.

Learn Bridge in A Day?® (Saturday, July 28)

You’ll nail the basics of bridge in this interactive class that has both instruction and coached play. If you’re just starting, returning to the game or wanting to “test the waters” before taking formal lessons, this course is for you. The concentrated course includes both class instruction and coached play
Fee: $15 when you pre-register, $20 at the door. Textbooks and door prizes are included in the fee.

Learn Bridge in A Day?® Instructor Accreditation (Saturday, July 28)

This program instructs teachers in methods of administering and presenting LBIAD.

Teachers wishing to be accredited must complete the following two requirements:

  1. Serve as a Table Mentor at an LBIAD seminar led by Patty Tucker, and
  2. Attend a two-hour LBIAD Teacher Training event presented by Whirlwind Bridge.

Teacher Training will include information on organizing and marketing LBIAD as well as maximizing retention rates, writing effective grant requests and the presentation of the seminar.

Time: Seminar 1-6 p.m. Instructor Accreditation 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. A light meal will be provided 6:00-6:30 p.m.
Fee: $75. For any teacher wishing to purchase an LBIAD License within 30 days of Accreditation, $50 of the $75 fee will be applied to the first-year License fee.

Audrey Grant’s Continuing Education for Teachers and Club Managers (Sunday, July 29)

When it comes to bridge, Audrey Grant is a household name. For decades, she has taught students, teachers and club owners across the world. Her hands-on approach and creative use of the table, cards and bid boxes has helped keep students engaged, excited and focused.
Audrey will walk through and explain teaching techniques in this hour-and-a-half seminar. Following the seminar, you can attend her free two-hour bridge lesson. You’ll observe Audrey’s techniques at work and see how she leaves each student hungering to learn more.

Notrump in A Day? (Sunday, July 29)

Be one of the first to experience the new “In A Day” workshop series, Notrump in a Day. This workshop explores basic notrump bidding and the most common responses, from raises to Stayman and Jacoby Transfers. Want to be sure when to use which convention, what your second bid should be or what your partner is telling you? Then this workshop is for you!

Course includes student workbook, presentation and practice hands.

Meeting of the Board of Governors and ACBL General Membership Meeting (Sunday, July 29)

Board of Governors discussion will include recent actions of the Board of Directors and reports from the CEO and treasurer, as well as new proposals from the Board of Governors. All ACBL members are invited to attend.
