Seminars and Meetings at the Memphis, Spring NABC

Club and Cruise Directors Course (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, March 19, 20 and 21)

This comprehensive course prepares candidates for directing club and bridge cruise games. Anyone interested in becoming a club director or a director aboard a cruise ship is invited to participate. Time: 1-10 p.m. Tuesday with dinner break

Best Practices Teacher Workshop (March 21, 22 and 23 Thursday, Friday and Saturday)

This workshop will train teachers on how, rather than what, to teach. It is built around simulations to engage participants in analyzing and practicing as well as giving and receiving feedback on working with students while delivering bridge lessons, and have the opportunity to earn ACBL’s Best Teaching Practices Certification by completing a proficiency assessment.

Proficiency assessments to earn Best Practices Teacher certification are conducted at the conclusion of the workshop for an additional $25 fee. Assessments are scheduled in 20-minute slots, and will be offered on Saturday, March 23 between 2 and 6 p.m. and Sunday, March 24 between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Fee: $125. Registration (Space is limited). Registrants will be sent a Basic Bridge Knowledge Test (70% score required for participation in Workshop).

Reception for Club Officials and Teachers (Friday, March 22)

Enjoy ACBL’s thank you reception for the club officials and teachers who recruit and retain our members. All club managers, teachers and club directors are encouraged to attend.

Learn Bridge in A Day?® (Saturday, March 23)

You’ll nail the basics of bridge in this interactive class that has both instruction and coached play. If you’re just starting, returning to the game or wanting to “test the waters” before taking formal lessons, this course is for you. The concentrated course includes both class instruction and coached play.

Learn Bridge in A Day? ® Instructor Accreditation (Saturday, March 23)

This program instructs teachers in methods of administering and presenting LBIAD.

Teachers wishing to be accredited must complete the following two requirements:

  • Serve as a Table Mentor at an LBIAD seminar led by Patty Tucker, and
  • Attend a two-hour LBIAD Teacher Training event presented by Whirlwind Bridge.

Teacher Training will include information on organizing and marketing LBIAD as well as maximizing retention rates, writing effective grant requests and the presentation of the seminar.

Time: 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. Instructor Accreditation 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. A light meal will be provided 6:00-6:30 p.m.
Fee: 75. For any teacher wishing to purchase an LBIAD License within 30 days of Accreditation, $50 of the $75 fee will be applied to the first-year License fee.

Audrey Grant’s Continuing Education for Teachers and Club Managers (Sunday, March 24)

When it comes to bridge, Audrey Grant is a household name. For decades, she has taught students, teachers and club owners across the world. Her hands-on approach and creative use of the table, cards and bid boxes has helped keep students engaged, excited and focused.

Audrey will walk through and explain teaching techniques in this hour-and-a-half seminar. Following the seminar, you can attend her free two-hour bridge lesson. You’ll observe Audrey’s techniques at work and see how she leaves each student hungering to learn more.

Notrump in A Day? (Sunday, March 24)

Be one of the first to experience the new “In A Day” workshop series, Notrump in a Day. This workshop explores basic notrump bidding and the most common responses, from raises to Stayman and Jacoby Transfers. Want to be sure when to use which convention, what your second bid should be or what your partner is telling you? Then this workshop is for you!

Course includes student workbook, presentation and practice hands.
